Intel Reports Growth in Q1 2024 Despite Mixed Outlook
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — April 25, 2024 — Intel Corporation today announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, marking a period of growth but with a cautious outlook for the upcoming quarter.
Key Financial Highlights
Intel reported a first-quarter revenue of $12.7 billion, which is an increase of 9% year-over-year (YoY). This was driven by strong performances in its Intel Products sector, particularly in the Client Computing Group, which saw a revenue increase of 31% to $7.5 billion.
Despite these gains, the company faced challenges:
- GAAP earnings per share (EPS) were at a loss of $0.09, although non-GAAP EPS stood at $0.18.
- The company forecasted a mixed outlook for the second quarter of 2024, with expected revenues ranging from $12.5 billion to $13.5 billion and a non-GAAP EPS of $0.10.
Operational and Business Unit Developments
Intel's restructured internal foundry operating model, which aims to enhance transparency and accountability, has started to influence the company's strategic decisions positively. Additionally, the Data Center and AI Group reported a modest growth of 5%, reaching $3.0 billion. However, the Network and Edge Group experienced a decline, with revenue down 8%.
Intel Foundry, launched as the world's first systems foundry for the AI era, reported a decrease in revenue by 10% but highlighted strong future commitments from key industry players.
Stock Market Reaction
In response to the earnings report and mixed future guidance, Intel's stock price fell by 7.7% in after-market trading. This reflects investor concerns over the company's short-term profitability and the cautious outlook for Q2 2024.
Q2 Outlook and Dividend Announcement
Looking ahead, Intel predicts a challenging second quarter with expected GAAP gross margins at 40.2% and non-GAAP gross margins at 43.5%. The company also announced a quarterly dividend of $0.125 per share, payable on June 1, 2024, to shareholders of record as of May 7, 2024.
